A feral cat is a domesticated cat that
has returned to the wild, or the descendants of such an animal. Feral
cats are not socialized to people and therefore are not adoptable.
They don't belong indoors and are wary of people. However as members
of the domesticated cat species, they are protected under
anti-cruelty laws.
